Disaster Prep, 7/14 10am-3pm
The coronavirus pandemic has impacted our communities like no other disaster in our history. Housing counseling agencies have dealt with major obstacles in helping consumers obtain and maintain housing through the economic shutdown and recovery.
How do you begin to prepare for a natural disaster in the midst of this current pandemic? What are the steps to take after a disaster occurs? These are questions, among many others, that are being asked during this pandemic and hurricane season, which will all be addressed in this informative and engaging one-day virtual training.
You Will Learn:
How to access and utilize various disaster-related resources.
How housing counselors can help manage expectations, mitigate loss and serve as a valuable resource to persons and communities directly or indirectly impacted by disasters.
How to work with community stakeholders in preparing for and responding to disasters in our communities.
How to strengthen your community by helping residents become prepared for other natural disasters while still maintaining “COVID Smart” practices.
Program Management for Disaster, 7/15 10am-3pm
Even when working through the current impact of COVID-19, agencies still must be prepared to respond rapidly and serve survivors should another disaster strike.
How does my organization develop plans to prepare for a disaster and mitigate loss? How will my agency deliver existing services, add disaster-related resources and engage with the community after a disaster strikes? How do we build partnerships with other community stakeholders before, during and after a disaster?
These questions, among others, will be addressed in this one-day disaster response training. We will explore strategies and tools housing counseling agencies can utilize to help prepare for each phase of a disaster. This training will also provide an overview of disaster preparedness and response action plans.
You Will Learn:
Discuss the activities that a HUD approved housing counseling agency can deliver under a Housing Counseling Agency Disaster Program.
Explore potential barriers that occur post disaster and processes to overcome them.
Discuss delivery methods for one-on-one counseling, group education, and other services, in the event your agency has suffered negative disaster impact.
